Luthien Brackett

Mezzo-Sprano

Born in California to parents who loved to read, Luthien Brackett was named after a character in J.R.R. Tolkien’s legendarium.  Praised by the press for her “lushness and delicacy,” and “silky tone among all registers,” Luthien is in great demand as an alto soloist and professional chorister.  Her recent solo appearances include Handel’s Messiah with Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, Rachmaninoff’s All-Night Vigil with Skylark Vocal Ensemble, Handel’s Dixit Dominus and Mozart’s Solemn Vespers with the North Carolina Master Chorale, J.S. Bach’s Mass in B Minor with the Grand Rapids Symphony Orchestra, and the premiere of Blue Pearl: A One World Oratorio by Steve Banks in London.  Other notable recent engagements include an international tour of Handel’s Solomon with The English Concert and the Clarion Choir, Handel’s Messiah with VOCES8 and the English Chamber Orchestra, a performance of J.S. Bach’s Lutheran masses with I Fagiolini for Brecon Baroque, Handel’s Saul with The English Concert for the Edinburgh International Festival, and J.S. Bach’s Mass in B Minor with The Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment for the BBC Proms.  Among her numerous commercial recordings are four GRAMMY-nominated albums, including Julia Wolfe’s Pulitzer Prize-winning Anthracite Fields with the Bang on a Can All-Stars.  Luthien enjoys baking, traveling, reading, binge-watching British detective series’, and practicing her French and German on Duo Lingo.  She lives in northwest London.
