Festival keyboardist Dongsok Shin performs works for solo fortepiano by Mozart, Johann Sebastian Bach, C.P.E. Bach, and Johann Christian Bach in an intimate Foyer Concert.
“Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was taught and influenced by the sons of J.S. Bach throughout his life. He was taught composition by Johann (John) Christian Bach, J.S. Bach’s youngest son, when he visited London as an eight-year-old in 1764. He got to meet Carl Phillip Emanuel Bach, J.S. Bach’s oldest son who wrote the “rule book” on style and substance in effect throughout Mozart’s (and even into Beethoven’s) lifetime. And later in his short life, he discovered the compositions of Johann Sebastian, the father of John and Carl, and became vitally interested in fugues. This recital, on a copy of Mozart’s own fortepiano, explores these influences.” – Dongsok Shin, fortepiano
