Off Season Music Education Programs
PLAY! and SOuL! are original, innovative off-season programs for youth, created by the Carmel Bach Festival.
PLAY!
Performing and Learning Arts for Youth
Offers instrumental music programs for elementary, middle, and high school students.
SOuL!
Sing Out Loud
Offers a singing and songwriting program for 5th and 6th graders, designed to foster collaboration, teamwork, and confidence.
Our programs are led by professional musicians who are also skilled teachers. They bring music directly into schools and afterschool programs through concerts, coaching, and clinics. More than passive listening experiences, PLAY! and SOuL! aim to connect deeply with young people—especially those with limited access to music—and help them experience how music can transform their lives. All programs align with the California Visual and Performing Arts Content Standards.
Guiding Principles of Our Music Education Programs:
-
Activities are meaningful and impactful for every student.
-
Programs create positive, lasting change for individuals.
-
We go beyond “drop-in” concerts, making multiple visits to build safe, inspiring relationships between students and teaching artists. Our long-term goal is to maintain ongoing partnerships with several schools each year.
-
We focus on chamber ensembles and bringing music directly to students at their school or program site rather than in large concert halls.
-
Programs are responsive to each school’s or site’s needs, creating meaningful impact where it’s needed most.
Our off-season music education programs are made possible with the generous support of:
-
The Harden Foundation
-
Arts Council for Monterey County
-
The Pebble Beach Company Foundation
-
