The Young Artists Competition returns during the 82nd Festival, July 13-27, 2019.

The Carmel Bach Festival Young Artists Competition will present outstanding student musicians from the Central Coast Section of the California Music Education Association. Young Artists chosen to perform during the Festival will be selected from a competitive audition to be held March 16, 2019 at Pacific Grove Middle School. Winners of the competition will then be invited to perform on a special Young Artists showcase concert during the July Festival on the main stage of the Sunset Center in Carmel-by-the-Sea. Young Artists will also receive a recording and photos of the live performance.

The competition is overseen by local music educator Barbara Priest. An award-winning music educator of more than 20 years, Priest is the founder and director of the intergenerational Pacific Grove Pops Orchestra as well as the Instrumental Music Director for Pacific Grove Middle School. She was recognized as music educator of the year by both the Central Coast Section of the California Music Education Association and the Monterey Jazz Festival. She is an alumna of Monterey High School and the first honored alumni of Youth Music Monterey. Barbara is a past president of CMEA-CCS and hosts regional student music events and festivals at the PG Performing Arts Center.
