Art Raffle

Carmel Bach Festival’s Art Raffle consists of over 100 art pieces hung in the Marjorie Evans Gallery at the Sunset Cultural Center. Throughout the two-week Festival, volunteers sell tickets and assist patrons in the process of selecting artwork on which they wish to bid. All proceeds benefit the Carmel Bach Festival artistic efforts.

Requirements: The ability to do basic math, be personable and friendly, comfortable handling money, reliable, and able to stand for long periods of time. In addition, you must be available evenings and weekends and attend a mandatory training. Dates and times for training and shifts are TBA.

Attire:For women: ankle-length black pants or knee-length or longer skirt and blouse/nice top. If needed, accompany your outfit with a black jacket or sweater. For men: black pants and white buttoned dress shirt with a tie. If needed, accompany your outfit with a black jacket or sweater. Both men and women will need nice, yet comfortable, black dress shoes. We will provide an apron to use during your shift.

Artist Transportation

Get to know our musicians! As they fly in from around the world in early July, some will need a ride to and from the bus station and/or airport to their living arrangements in Carmel-by-the-Sea. There is only one pick-up date in early July and the drop-off will be at the end of the month. Please note: mileage is not reimbursed.

Requirements:Flexible on-call ability in July, reliable car, safe driver, friendly, personable, and good with directions. In addition, comfortable sharing your contact information with your designated musician.

Attire: Comfortable clean clothes.

Candle Bearer

The Carmel Bach Festival is seeking 12-18 volunteers to serve as Candle Bearers at the Wednesday night Carmel Mission Concert. This opportunity is immersive because you participate in the concert by wearing ceremonial red robes and holding a lighted candle as you lead the musicians in to start and conclude the concert.

Additionally, you will participate in the Tower Brass performance standing near the group guiding patrons as they enter and leave the Basilica. This traditional event is a highlight of the Carmel Bach Festival. When deciding on this job, make sure you can attend the mandatory rehearsal held on the first Monday of the Festival, July 16th in the evening, and can attend both Wednesday concerts.

Church in the Forest Usher

The Carmel Bach Festival is collaborating once again with the Church in the Forest congregation to host three chamber concerts. The role of this position will be to work directly with the House Managers to ensure our patrons enter and exit the venue safely, and are seated in a timely manner. Duties include, but are not limited to, operating ticket scanners, handing out programs, greeting patrons, helping patrons find their assigned seats, assisting with late seating, assisting with emergency protocol as directed, and more. The House Managers on duty will be in charge of your shift and is your resource for any questions or concerns.

By signing up below, you will be added to a pool of people that are interested in this position. You will be expected to attend a meeting with the House Managers to discuss the position, your availability, and training.

Event Support

Join us this season to help work at our special events we throw for our patrons. These events are usually receptions where you could be responsible for set-up, pouring wine, attending and replenishing food tables and clean-up. This is a great job for those who love to entertain!

Requirements: Standing for long periods of time, friendly, social and attention to detail

For men: black pants and white buttoned dress shirt with a tie. Flyer Distribution

Paint the town with flyers! This is an opportunity to pick-up marketing materials from the Carmel Bach Festival office and distribute them to your favorite local businesses. We will have a variety of materials ranging from posters to rack cards and ticket brochures. You must ask the business if you can leave them there, usually they will direct you to a specific area like at store counter, flyer friendly zones, or hang in store windows. You will be expected to come in three times between April and June whenever you are available. When you come to pick-up the materials in the Carmel Bach Festival administrative office (NW Corner of Mission and 10th, Carmel-by-the-Sea) please sign-in on the designated sheet by the front door leaving your name, flyers taken and estimated hours spent delivering.

Home and Garden Tour

Cottages, Gardens & Cantatas, the Bach Festival’s home and garden tour returns this spring on Saturday, April 27 from 11am-4pm. MANY volunteers are needed for this one-day event. You may volunteer to help by signing up for one or both shifts and will be assigned to one home for the full time of a single shift.

The criteria for volunteering include: smiling, giving directions and being watchful so that patrons don’t bump into things, trip or pick up home owner belongings. Wear dark pants and a white top. An apron will be provided that will identify you as a Bach volunteer. Wear comfortable shoes in that you will be standing for most of your shift.

The home tour chair will email (or phone) you the week prior to the tour giving you your assignment and sharing background information about the home where you are to work.

SIGN UP FOR ONE OR BOTH SHIFTS. April 27, 2019, 10:45am-1:30 pm or 1:15-4pm. Each shift is 2 ¾ hours. If you sign up by April 15 and wish to tour the other homes, you can purchase a ticket at a 20% discount--$32 instead of $40. All discounted tickets must be purchased by April 23.

It’s a fun event. You get to talk to lots of folks who love being on the tour—making it exceedingly enjoyable for all. In some homes young musicians treat us to great classical music. Do sign up. You can help us make this fundraiser a great success.

Musician Hospitality

Every summer, the Carmel Bach Festival hosts approximately 150 musicians. We provide meals and coffee for them during their breaks. Job duties include preparing and serving food, cleaning-up after each service, and providing good hospitality during your designated shift(s). In addition, there are opportunities to pick-up food. This requires you to drive to a local restaurant, pick-up a food order, and bring it to the Sunset Center Green Room backstage. Please note: mileage is not reimbursed.

Below are times and dates for available shifts to either drive or serve food for the musicians. If the driver location is TBA, you will receive an email from Gloria Souza regarding the location you will be picking-up the food. All servers will work in the Green Room behind the Sunset Center stage. Food servers are expected to wear casual and clean presentable attire and if applicable, hair pulled back.

Musician Welcome Party Event Assistant

Join us to welcome the musicians to Carmel in early July. This job entails helping the Musician Sponsorship Chair, Carol Hilburn, set-up the food and event space and co-host during the event by replenishing food trays, pour wine, deliver food to the specific locations, and clean-up. It is so much fun to work with the team and make this event happen.

Requirements: Ability to stand for long periods of time, friendly, sense of urgency, multi-task, can carry more than 5 pounds

Office Support and Ticket Sales

The Carmel Bach Festival is in need of volunteers who can work one three to four hour shift Monday through Friday every week from May through July. The job duties require taking ticket orders and answering the phone, along with, other miscellaneous office projects.

Requirements: Comfortable with using computers and answering the phone, timely, and friendly

Attire: Office appropriate everyday wear.

The role of an usher is to work directly with House Manager to ensure our patrons enter and exit the venue safely, cater to any special seating needs, and seat all patrons in a timely manner. Duties include, but are not limited to, operating ticket scanners, handing out programs, greeting patrons, helping patrons find their assigned seats, assisting with late seating, assisting with emergency protocol as directed, and more. The House Manager on duty will be in charge of your shift and is your resource for any questions or concerns.

Requirements: You must be able to stand for long periods of time, have exemplary interpersonal skills, be flexible, adaptive and friendly and, most importantly, able to follow directions at a moment’s notice to a patron need and/or emergency.

Will Call

Will Call volunteers are responsible for selling tickets before each concert and helping patrons pick-up pre-purchased tickets. A mandatory training will occur and be scheduled by our Box Office Manager.

Requirements: Friendly, good math skills, organized, reliable transportation to concert location
